Tomatoes — Heirlooms

Just a smattering of the varieties I grow. Hundreds (and hundreds) more available at the farm as seedlings. 25 seeds per packet

Culture: Start 6-8 weeks earlier, indoors. Set out into warm, well-fed soil. I put a huge shovelful of compost into each planting hole, then set the plants in deep. Water well to establish. For best taste, water very sparingly, if at all after the plants are established.

Indeterminates

  • Black Cherry
A really pretty, purplish-black salad tomato, much sought after. Nice, sweet flavour and stunning when paired with cherry tomatoes of different colours. Lovely. 75 days.

  • Black Prince
SOLD OUT for 2014 5-7 oz. Near-perfect globes of dark-skinned beauties. Flavour is outstanding with that black tomato smokey, rich taste. 75 days.

  • Green Doctor's Frosted (Cherry)
This is a great little sweet green cherry, with a slight "frosted" look on the skin. A great little tomato. Regular leaf. 75 days.

  • Fargo Yellow Pear
About twice the size of regular pear tomatoes and a really nice tomato flavour, this heirloom was introduced in 1934 by A.F. Yaegar. Lots of tomatoes that are crack-free. 80 days. Packet 25 seeds.

  • Federle
Paste or fresh eating. One of my very favourites, a long sausage-type, meaty with rich flesh. Indeterminate plant, wispy regular leaf foliage. 90 days. Indeterminate.

  • Green Zebra
Tom Wagner’s 1985 creation, this is a visually stunning tomato, with a snappy taste! Green with dark green stripes that turn yellow when ripe. 4-5 oz. 77 days.

  • Pineapple
SEEDS SOLD OUT FOR 2014! I always sell out of the plants for this one. People really want it once they have tried it! Typical of many bi-colours, it is large and has that wonderful sweet fruity taste. Absolutely stunning when sliced through and plated, with red emanating throughout the yellow fruit. 85 days.

  • Reisentraube
A delicious red cherry, with a point on the end,. Grows in bunches as the name when translated from German would suggest. 75 days. indeterminate.

  • Speckled Roman
Stunning appearance for a paste type, but also wonderful flavour for fresh eating. A sausage-type tomato, long red fruit with gold wavy striping. Indeterminate wispy leaf plant. 80 days. Indeterminate.

  • Stupice
The standard for early great tasting tomatoes. I plant more of this variety than any other. A czech heirloom that produces tasty small red tomatoes in a remarkable 55 days, sometimes less. Excellent. Potato leaf, indeterminate.

  • Ukranian Purple
Beautiful 3-4" long plum shaped fruit. Very sweet and meaty on productive plants. 80 days. Indeterminate.
